incorporates Biblical stewardship principles into all fund-raising. Some of these principles include:
Treasures of the Heart
(Jesus and Solomon) -- "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21) First and foremost, God wants our heart -- not our treasure. If God wanted our treasure first, he would have reversed the order of this verse. When we put treasure first, we are never satisfied: "Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income." (Ecclesiastes 5:10, See also Matthew 19:16-22)
Leaders First (David) -- "Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly" (1 Chronicles 29:6)Giving first is a leadership act and sets the example for the people. "The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord." (1 Chronicles 29:9)
Willing Hearts
(Moses and Paul) -- "Everyone who was willing and whose heart moved him came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work." (Exodus 35:21) "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7) Major gift work can never be about compulsion or guilt -- but renewed hearts.
Ample Resource
(Moses) -- "And so the people were restrained from bringing more, because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work." (Exodus 36:6,7) When the plans are of God, there is more than enough resource from willing people. There is no need for compulsion.
Courage by Faith
(David) -- "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work . . . is finished." (1 Chronicles 28:20) Where God's finger points, God's hand will always make the way.
Stewards of Wealth
(David and Jesus) -- "Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand." (1 Chronicles 29:14) "It will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them." (Matthew 25:14). All that we have is God's property, entrusted to our care for wise management.
Blessed by Giving
(The Father and the Son) -- "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." (Malachi 3:10) "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35) All people are blessed through giving; greater giving is greater blessing.
Generous Sowing
(Paul and Jesus) -- "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously." (2 Corinthians 9:9) "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything -- all she had to live on." (Mark 12:43-44) God judges our giving by our living. Generous giving is blessed living.
